What is Amazon Prime Day?
Amazon Prime Day started on July 15, 2015 as a celebration of Amazon's 20th anniversary.
For 24 hours, Amazon offered Prime members exclusive deals on a wide range of products. The day was such a success that Amazon made Prime Day an annual tradition and has expanded the holiday to numerous countries including Spain, Japan, Austria, Mexico, and more.
Amazon has also expanded the duration of Prime Day. In 2017, Amazon Prime Day lasted for 30 hours, whereas in 2018 Prime Day lasted for 36 hours. Last year, Prime Day ran from July 15 through the end of July 16 making the 48-hour sale the longest in its history. Prime Day 2020 will mimic last year's run time, offering two days of deals, beginning October 13.
When is the next Amazon Prime Day?
The next Amazon Prime Day event starts Tuesday, October 13 at midnight PT/3:00 am ET and ends October 14 at midnight/3:00 am ET.
Over the past five years, Prime Day has typically been celebrated during the second or third week of July. Amazon is gearing up for next week with the offer of early Prime Day deals right now. Last year, we saw some excellent Prime Day deals on laptops. This year, we expect a plethora of equally jaw-dropping laptop deals.
Back in August, laptops from brands like Asus, Dell, HP, and Lenovo were on sale during Prime Day India. It's likely that we'll see similar Prime Day laptop deals in the U.S. We expect to see massive discounts on our favorite notebook PCs including the Dell XPS 13 and the MacBook Pro.

That's because the the $10 credit, which is only valid during Prime Day, can turn a good Amazon Prime Day deal into an awesome deal. One year, the Fire TV Stick dropped to $19.99 after the credit. Other times, we've seen the Echo Dot hut an all-time low of $24.99 after the $10 credit.

How does Prime Day 2020 work on Amazon?
Prime Day deals are exclusively for Prime members. However, if you're not a Prime member, Amazon offers a free 30-day Prime membership trial as an incentive to join. You can cancel before your trial ends to avoid being charged $119 for a year of Prime.
College students can also sign up for a Prime Student membership to shop Prime Day deals. Prime Student costs $59 per year (50% less than a traditional membership) and offers many of the same perks. What's more, students get a 6-month free trial instead of just 30 days. The deals will be available for a short period of time only, so you must select "Add to Cart" to claim the Lightning Deal you want.
Once added to your cart, a countdown timer appears letting you know how much time you have left before the discount expires.
Due to the time sensitive nature of Prime Day Lightning Deals, it's a good idea to watch them before they start. To receive mobile alerts when a Lightning Deal is about to begin, download and install the Amazon app to your smartphone or tablet and turn on notifications.
Will there be an Amazon Prime Day concert?
Amazon isn't one to shy away from big events to promote Prime Day. Over the past two years, Amazon would kick off its founding day celebration with a Prime Day concert that all Prime members to stream live via Amazon's website.
According to an Amazon representative via an email to Laptop Mag, there are no plans for a Prime Day concert in the US. However, Amazon Australia announced a Prime Day Live concert presented by Amazon Music to benefit the Australia's "Save Our Venues" initiative. Due to the global health crisis, several grassroots music venues are in danger of being permanently shut down.
Musicians Lewis Capaldi, Celeste, and Welsh artist/producer, Cate Le Bon will perform live on stage from a small independent music venue in the Australia under threat of closure. Prime Day Live will livestream on Friday October 9 at 7pm BST / 2pm EST. Prime members can watch stream the show using the Amazon music app or Amazon Music Australia's Twitch TV page.
"Amazon Music was one of the first donors for our COVID-19 Crisis fund earlier this year, and we're excited they are continuing their support through this Prime Day Live event to help us raise awareness of the plight of venues and help drive much-needed donations to keep them open," Head of Amazon Music Australia , Patrick Clifton said in a statement.
In 2018, Amazon chose Ariana Grande, Alessia Cara, Kelsea Ballerina, and Julia Michaels to headline their Prime Day concert. Amazon Prime Day 2019's concert featured Taylor Swift, Dua Lipa, Becky G, and SZA. Both concerts were held in New York and 2019's concert was available for streaming throughout Prime Day. (For Prime members only, naturally).
